The former co-chair of the Turkish Peoples' Democratic Party, Selahattin Demirtaş, considered that the policies of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan crushed the Turkish lira and led to its collapse.

The Turkish newspaper Zaman quoted Demirtaş as saying in a statement today that Turkey is not a poor country, but it is run very badly by this regime, adding that the most urgent thing is to demand early elections to teach those who sold the country lessons through the ballot box.

Demirtaş pointed out that millions of Turkish citizens are now living in poverty to the extent that they wait for hours in queues to get their daily food, and the situation is getting worse day by day.

It is noteworthy that Demirtaş has been detained in the prisons of the Erdogan regime since 2016 on charges and allegations attributed to him by this regime about his links with terrorism.

The continued depreciation of the Turkish currency is mainly due to Erdogan's repeated interventions in monetary policy and the rapid changes he has imposed in the leadership of the Central Bank.

The dollar exchange rate in Turkey today recorded 11.23 Turkish liras, in light of a wave of accelerating collapse of the Turkish currency for weeks.
