Oil prices stabilized around $80 a barrel today after the United States announced plans to release 50 million barrels of its strategic reserves.
Reuters reported that Brent crude futures fell 12 cents, or 0.15 percent, to $ 79.58 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell 50 cents, or 0.65 percent, to $ 76.25 a barrel.
The White House had announced earlier that the release of 50 million barrels of strategic petroleum reserves of the United States will begin to reach the market from mid to late December.
