Damascus-SANA

The themes of the second national conference on “Biological and Integrated Control” held at the Faculty of Agriculture in Damascus focused on the mechanisms of using modern applications, plant extracts, microbial control of pests, and ways to benefit from advanced biotechnologies.

The conference, organized by the Center for Biological Control Research and Studies at the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, included a presentation on methods of managing agricultural and urban pests based on biological control and ways to facilitate the exchange of information and experiences on research and applied activities.

Researchers and lecturers from the College of Agricultural Engineering, the Arab Society for Plant Protection and a number of research organizations will participate in the conference.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, indicated in his speech that the research and studies participating in the conference constitute a lever to advance the economic development sectors, stressing the need for coordination between scientific research bodies, ministries and institutions to play a participatory role in solving the problems of agriculture and the environment and formulating development policies.

In turn, the Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Dr. Abdul Nabi Bashir, pointed out in his speech that the conference’s proposals contribute to strengthening biological and integrated control strategies, which have become a basic need to solve the environmental and health impacts resulting from the use of chemical control and reduce its repercussions on agricultural products in a way that reduces the import of chemical pesticides.

On the sidelines of the conference, an exhibition of the experiences and work of researchers in the College of Agriculture and graduate students was opened within the Insect Museum of the college.
