With a large order for electric trucks, DB Schenker wants to make its fleet more climate-friendly.
The logistics company orders around 1500 electric trucks from the Swedish manufacturer Volta Trucks.
The subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn did not disclose what the pre-orders cost.
The first prototypes will start to be used as planned in spring.
The knowledge gathered in this way will then flow into the series production of the 16-tonne trucks, which is planned in Steyr, Austria.
The electric trucks are to be used in the Ruhr area and at other European Schenker terminals.
Competitors such as Deutsche Post DHL and Kuehne & Nagel are not that far advanced when it comes to electric trucks.
These companies are also investing heavily in climate-friendly technologies to reduce their CO₂ emissions - DHL, for example, relies on smaller electric vans (street scooters).
E-trucks are not yet on the road for these companies on a large scale.
