The nautical industry is surfing the recovery

DECRYPTION - At the bottom of the wave in 2020, the sector has already returned to its pre-crisis level, thanks to individual customers.

There will be no beach volleyball or surfing this year at the Paris International Boat Show which opens this Saturday, due to the health crisis. But the event will still have an air of celebration. Boat manufacturers have indeed been walking on the water for several months, thanks to record orders.

“Sales are starting again very strongly,

enthuses Fabien Metayer, general delegate of the Federation of the nautical industry

. Full order books for the next two to three years. "

The extent of the recovery surprises Jérôme de Metz, boss of Beneteau, the world's leading manufacturer of sailboats:

"The rebound is visible in all countries and for all sizes of boats,"

notes the manager.

Professionals have come a long way, because 2020 has been terrible for boating.

And not just because trade shows, usually commercial highlights of the year, couldn't be held.

The turnover of the sector fell by 11.5% last year, to 4.7 billion euros.
