The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatana, discussed with the Abkhaz Ambassador in Damascus Khutaba Bagrat Rachovich ways to develop relations between the two countries in the field of trade exchange and the export of agricultural products.
Minister Qatna pointed to the need to develop a scientific and technical cooperation program within an executive agreement through which means of cooperation are framed as a basis for determining exportable products and their quantities and specifications, stone, standard and technical, stressing the government’s keenness to facilitate all possible procedures between traders and businessmen in Syria and Abkhazia to serve the process exchange products.
Ambassador Khutaba expressed his country's readiness to establish a maritime line between the two countries to speed up the arrival of Syrian products to the seaports and facilitate their passage to Russia and its neighboring countries and to establish two trade points in each of Abkhazia and Syria for the packing and packaging of vegetables and fruits for export and to contribute to holding businessmen meetings between the two countries in the presence of government agencies to activate Agreements on the ground.
Ambassador Khotaba requested a list of Syrian agricultural products intended for export, their quantities, agricultural quarantine laws in Syria, and possible facilities in the field of transferring products and establishing investments.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of setting up a factory for processing and recycling wood and a factory for drying fruits in Syria and the necessary conditions for importing wood and means of transporting goods.
After the meeting, the Abkhaz ambassador visited a hall selling the products of rural families in Damascus and was briefed on various locally made goods and materials.
