"agents"

for drivers, but have a direct contractual relationship with customers.

The judgment, which affects all taxi operators operating in the British capital, follows a resounding decision by the British Supreme Court in February, which forced Uber to give hybrid status of salaried workers to its drivers in the United Kingdom.

The Supreme Court

"had suggested, without however

ruling

definitively"

that the platforms of vehicles with driver had a direct relationship with the passengers, under a law applicable in the British capital, considered the High court of London in a consulted judgment by AFP, following a procedure launched by Uber and another platform, Free Now.

An impact on the price of journeys

The decision could have an impact on the prices of journeys in the British capital, while the platforms of vehicles with driver will have to integrate the VAT in their prices, estimates Uber, which indicates to be in the process of analyzing this judgment but assures that it will respect it.

"Each operator (...) will be affected by this decision,"

said the company in a statement sent to AFP, judging that if

"Uber drivers have the guarantee of the minimum wage, paid holidays and a pension plan ”

, its competitors will now

“ also ensure that drivers are treated fairly ”

.

After the change of status of its drivers, Uber announced an agreement in May with the British union GMB to represent its 70,000 drivers in the United Kingdom.

Then the company launched in September the creation of a retirement plan to which it will contribute up to 3% of the drivers' earnings, and invited rival platforms to participate.
