Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman, in coordination with Agriculture Minister Oded Forer, signed an order that would abolish tariffs on soft dairy products and also increase the duty-free quota for hard cheeses, in a way that is expected to lower the prices of dairy products for Israeli consumers. According to the Treasury, the order will take effect immediately.
The order includes the complete abolition of caps on yogurts, dairy delicacies and cheeses up to 5% fat - the order will allow the market to open for free import of these products from European countries where the consumer price per kilogram of yogurt is about NIS 8.5 per kilo on average, compared to NIS 17. per kilo in Israel.
In addition, the order includes an increase in the duty-free quota by 5,000 tonnes for the import quota of cheese - cheese imports are expected to be 25% cheaper than in Israel, the regulated retail price is expected to fall by about 10 shekels a kilo. all this, According to the message "while maintaining local agriculture."
According to the Ministry of Finance, the program implements the OECD recommendation to the State of Israel and is another step in placing Israel alongside the developed countries in terms of how to support agriculture, and it was later signed for a professional agreement between the Ministries of Finance and Agriculture.
