The pension insurance will have to pay an estimated 221 million euros in interest for the deposit of its reserves this year and next.
This emerges from the online pension insurance report 2021, previously reported by the "Bild" newspaper.
From 2017 to 2023, according to the insurance company's report, a total of 602 million euros will have to be paid due to the deposit interest at the European Central Bank (ECB).
The negative interest affects the so-called sustainability reserve, which according to the latest figures in October was just under 33 billion euros.
"Overall, the interest rate trend has only minor effects on the financial situation in the statutory pension insurance," said a spokesman for the pension insurance.
The total expenditure is expected to be around 341.6 billion euros in around 2021 - the negative interest will be around 150 million euros.
»The negative interest in relation to the total expenditure is only 0.04 percent.« The current expenses of the pension insurance are generally financed from the current premium income and the federal subsidies.
