While the authorities will more control the health pass in bars and restaurants, professionals deplore a "stigma".

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Jean Castex demanded from the prefects that they further verify compliance with the health pass in hotels, bars, cafes and restaurants.

A request which implies that the control of the pass is not systematic.

Professionals reacted to this announcement by criticizing a

"stigma"

.

“There are some free electrons but we should not generalize.

The vast majority of establishments control the pass, ”

defends the president of the GNI union in Île-de-France Pascal Mousset.

Negligence and false sanitary passes

For his colleague Hubert Jan, at the head of the catering branch of the UMIH union, the shortcomings stem more from

“negligence”

than from an assumed desire on the part of restaurateurs to reject the past. In addition, there are false health passes that managers do not detect, since they cannot verify identity.

"We have always played the game because we absolutely want to remain open"

, explains Hubert Jan, on his way to a meeting with the prefect of his department where he expects

"to receive instructions already known".

These sector representatives highlight the speeches of the main professional unions UMIH, GNI and SNRTC.

"We remind our members every week that we must systematically control the passes and we send information from the field,"

says Pascal Mousset of the GNI union.

To testify to the acceptance of the sanitary pass, the vice-president of the UMIH Hervé Becam even asks the authorities to

"accentuate the controls and to punish the offenders, who cast shame on the whole profession".

Request for government support

Jean Castex's call to order irritates restaurateurs in a period of uncertainty.

“Since the government has recommended giving up end-of-year meals and working from home four days a week, our turnover has fallen by 30 to 40% while the end of year celebrations are usually a time of year. increase in activity "

, notes Pascal Mousset bitterly, testifying to a sector

" at the end of its strength ".

The owners of cafes and restaurants are now asking for aid identical to that of caterers and nightclubs penalized by the restrictions, namely the assumption of their fixed costs by the State, when their drop in turnover drops by more than half.

A meeting with the ministers concerned will be held in early January.
