In the home office, an employee's electricity bill increases by up to 94 euros a year.

This is what the comparison portal Check24 has calculated.

Operating a laptop, monitor, desk lamp, kettle or coffee machine and using an electric stove or microwave will result in additional costs of around 25 to 43 cents per day.

For the calculation it was assumed that

  • minus vacation and public holidays, an employee

    works from

    home 220 days a year

  • and

    paid

    an

average price of 33.9 cents per kilowatt hour of

    electricity.

  • During this time he operates

    a

    laptop

    (0.12 kWh) for

    eight hours

    a

    day

    ,

  • a

    monitor

    (0.24 kWh) and an

    LED desk lamp

    (0.056 kWh).

  • He also uses a

    kettle

    for ten minutes

    (0.33 kWh)

  • or a

    coffee machine

    (0.25 kWh)

  • and an

    electric stove

    (0.5 kWh) for

    half an hour at noon

  • or a

    microwave for

    five minutes

    (0.066 kWh).

»Charging a smartphone hardly plays a role in the additional costs in the home office.

Because you only have to pay 0.3 cents per charge, ”the authors explained.

Permanent home office flat rate?

Check24 is a comparison portal for electricity tariffs, among other things.

When brokering new contracts, the portal earns money as a broker.

Check24 did not calculate any additional costs for heating, water or the Internet.

For the current year, employed people can deduct up to 600 euros from the home office flat rate as income-related expenses or business expenses: 5 euros per working day in the home office for a maximum of 120 days a year.

The Bavarian Finance Minister Albert Füracker called on the new federal government to continue the home office flat rate, which expired at the end of the year.

The citizens wanted to know "what they can or must prepare for next year," said the CSU politician.

Bavaria is committed to a lump sum of 1000 euros a year, because the world of work has changed due to the pandemic.
