14 statutory health insurances are increasing their contributions at the turn of the year, eight are reducing them.

The Stiftung Warentest reports that there are also several general local health insurance funds among those with price increases.

The increases would be between 0.1 and 0.5 percentage points.

The savings in the eight price core are rather small, around 0.08 to 0.4 percentage points.

Contributions remained stable for 51 of the 69 funds that were open to all.

The highest contribution rate is at the beginning of 2022 at 17.1 percent, the cheapest nationwide available at 15.29 percent.

Changing a health insurance company is usually straightforward, explains the foundation.

In most cases, an application to the new fund is sufficient, which then also takes on the formalities with the old company.

Employees must then notify their company.

Depending on your income, a change can save 100 euros and more per year.

However, the decision to change should not be made solely based on the costs, even if the service catalogs differ little by law.

"For example, good experience, grants for tooth cleaning or osteopathic treatment and an attractive bonus program can justify a slightly higher contribution rate," says the test leader, Sabine Baierl-Johna.
