Economy: Who made the rise in the crisis year

2021-12-30T17:58:22.298Z

Whether Elon Musk or Claus Weselsky: in 2021 the big winners weren't necessarily also the big popular figures. But some losers also reaped malicious pleasure instead of pity.

The first cars have been produced on a test basis - and it should only be a matter of weeks before the new Tesla plant in Grünheide, Brandenburg, spits out finished cars every day.

Then, once again, that man prevailed who met with much admiration but also just as much contempt around the world: Elon Musk.

The Tesla boss is one of the ten people who SPIEGEL business editors have chosen as the winners of the year 2021.

Just like Claus Weselsky, the stubborn Saxon who, as head of the train drivers' union GDL, successfully started a strike in the summer - and thus made many rail customers enemies, but in the end won the power struggle with the company.

You can see who is still among the winners of the 2021 financial year here:

The losers

The second year of the Corona had felt like a lot of losers: whether shopkeepers in lockdown or exhausted office workers in the home office.

But also in the world of bosses had to cope with some serious setbacks: »Bild« editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt stumbled upon his insubordinate amalgamation of professional and sexual life - and VW boss Herbert Diess almost over his dispute with the works council.

For who else it went down this year, see here:
