Controllers and maintenance agents are called to a targeted strike at Brest airport, in Finistère. As Brest prepares for a summit of European ministers, the CGT of the air navigation service has filed a strike notice for the dates of January 12, 13 and 14 - the exact dates of this great meeting of 54 ministers.

According to the ASAcgt union, this walkout must denounce the lack of staff and "

the now unsustainable mismatch between the human resources assigned to them and the public service missions assigned to them

This protest movement should, in fact, have no impact on air traffic since all employees have been requisitioned.

The 54 European ministers who are expected in Brest will therefore be able to reach the Breton city by air, since the airport located in Guipavas is the entry and exit point for all the expected delegations, as Le Télégramme reminds us.

Staffing problem

Trade unionists, for their part, criticize a reduction in maintenance teams, since only four maintenance engineers are still working at the airport.

They were double in 2019, reports France Bleu.

According to them, this would have consequences for the proper functioning of the airport, since the on-call of an engineer every weekend has been removed.

Thus, last July and after a control tower was damaged, a dozen flights had to be canceled, with solutions brought late for lack of personnel.

"

With the direction of civil aviation, we will find solutions to remedy these failures more quickly

", replied Aéroports de Bretagne Ouest (ABO).

A conciliation meeting was organized on Monday to discuss this issue of staffing with the management of the airport.

But the stakeholders did not reach a consensus.

The CGT considers for its part that the problem has not been resolved and that the filing of a new strike notice is not excluded in the future.
