Traffic jams in seaports are one of the most painful phenomena in the economy today. This is a global problem, but in Israel, as usual, it also has local aspects. One of them concerns the division of labor agreed upon between the old ports and the new private ports, which the state now seeks to open for the reception of goods that are not in containers, according to the Histadrut workers' representative, contrary to understandings reached with port workers.

Avi Edri, chairman of the Histadrut's Transport Workers' Union

, was a guest on journalist Liat Ron's program on Radio North 104.5FM and promised that "from next week - a strike in the ports," he said.

Edri: The whole world suffers from traffic jams in the maritime field, the corona has led to delays in ports all over the world. The state sought to recruit for a temporary period and we agreed, we signed collective agreements that worsen our situation.

We have agreed with the state explicitly that no general cargo will enter the new ports and this is the real problem, if the state wants to go back in it it will be willing to go back to the negotiating table and say 'we regretted we also want to bring general cargo into the new ports'.

"So all the negotiations that we have been working on for eight difficult years have reopened."

"We work insanely"

Edri explained why in his opinion the state should be responsible for changing the agreement: "The agreement says - we are going to be harmed in the container area. The state promised that it is only the container area, all other cargo will remain for existing ports and not the two new ports. We have made difficult collective agreements, including the retirement of workers.

Today we hear that the state allows the new ports to absorb general cargo, which means that everything we have built and everything we have agreed in agreements is worth a garlic peel and that is our anger. We want to help and recruit more workers The promises made to us are difficult, and we lament that.

Has anyone from the Ministry of Transportation spoken to you?

"They did not talk to us, we only talk through the media. If there was distress it would end in one phone, and they would say there is a problem and let's sit down. As for the traffic jams we are ready to shoot - we work 24/7 around the clock and work insanely, "The

traffic jams.

You have to sit and talk - there are agreements and you have to respect them. You can change, but in a joint meeting, there can be no one side that is sovereign and it overthrows you."
