The dispute between the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus and its important customer Qatar Airways has escalated: Airbus canceled an order from Qatar Airways for 50 A321neo machines, as a company spokesman announced on Friday.
Airbus is upset that Qatar has grounded its fleet of A350s and stopped accepting further deliveries of the type.
The airline criticizes the fuselage coating of the A350 aircraft.
According to Airbus, this has no impact on safety.
The companies are already arguing about this in court.
At the first hearing before the court in London on Thursday, Qatar Airways is seeking $618 million in compensation plus an additional $4 million for each day the A350s are grounded, sources said.
Airbus reportedly canceled the order for the A321neo aircraft because Qatar Airways failed to fulfill the contract to deliver the A350 aircraft.
The 50 A321neo aircraft have an order value of more than six billion dollars.
Another hearing in the London court is scheduled for the last week of April.
