Stock market prices: The perfect time to get involved will not come - why not just today?

Dear readers, I'm broke.

So pretty: home improvement, car insurance, the kids, you know.

Not the best time to start investing in stocks right now.

But: The year has just begun, I just turned 40, and now is probably the best time to start with equities.

Which of course is a lie.

In truth, I should have put everything into the stock market when I was 18 (when I canceled my mother's building loan contract).

Good Lord, back then Apple shares for 5000 euros

– today a millionaire with a handkerchief!

That was just too FDP for me at the time.

But now, as you can see, wisdom comes at 40, I've come to understand three things about the world of money:

1. The financial system is quite moody, skittish, enthusiastic and prone to overreacting.

So basically deeply human, like each of us.

You can work with that.

2. The perfect time to get in won't come - because it doesn't exist.

So why not just today?

3. Stocks are purely self-defence.

When I started saving, around the age of seven, there was 2.8 percent interest on my savings account.

Today, inflation can hardly be compensated for with fixed-term deposits or even savings accounts.

If you can't or don't want to start a lucrative online trade for meat substitutes, order a racehorse or simply want to increase your rent by ten percent as a real estate shark in Berlin-Mitte - why not buy shares?

A sample calculation:

If you want to invest 10,000 euros in a fixed-term deposit with a year at the bank today, with a lot of luck you will get 0.6 percent interest.

Your profit at the end of the year: 60 euros.

If we factor out one percent inflation, your investment even melts down to 9960 euros.

Well done.
