Stellantis welcomed Friday the improvement in its sales in China, driven by the Jeep Wrangler, as the group prepares to unveil its strategic plan for this huge market with "

still untapped potential

".

Stellantis' joint venture with Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile (DCPA) saw its sales jump in 2021, with "

more than 100,000 vehicles

" sold, "

more than double the sales recorded

" the previous year, explains the group in a press release.

Thanks to these performances, the year 2021 marked a turning point for DPCA

,” says Stellantis.

Jeep's Wrangler model

Nearly 9,300 of the 100,000 vehicles sold run on new energy (NEV), "

thus allowing DPCA to contribute to Stellantis' NEV and CAFC (average fuel consumption per manufacturer) credits for China

".

Jeep's Wrangler model even recorded "

historic annual sales

," says Stellantis.

"

Since the creation of Stellantis, we have analyzed the situation in China with our partners and we are now finalizing our plans for this strategic market, which we consider essential in view of its still untapped potential

", declared Grégoire Olivier, Director (COO) for China, quoted in the press release.

Stellantis also announced “

significant progress

” in the independent parts distribution market, and merged three entities in which it had invested since 2018 into a single national distributor, for which its stake amounts to 53.5%.

This new company has become the 4th largest parts distributor by revenue (176 million euros in 2021) in the independent parts distribution market in China, according to Stellantis.

Stellantis had announced on Thursday its intention to take a majority stake in the joint venture it holds with the Chinese GAC (China Guangzhou Automobile), an operation described as the "

first key step towards the rationalization of operations in China, which is part of part of the company's strategic plan, which is due to be announced on March 1st

.

This plan must present in particular the projects for China, the world's largest market, where the Stellantis brands have chained failures.
