Sales of electric vehicles continue to grow in France as shown by the figures for 2021, with 162,000 registrations, up 46% compared to the previous year.

For motorists who have taken the plunge, the question of loading immediately arises.

Easily finding a terminal and being able to fill up with kilowatts quickly becomes a strategic issue.

To respond to this, Casino and Tesla have chosen to join forces to deploy powerful chargers in 31 of the brand's car parks.

The first will be in Annecy (Haute-Savoie) which should be operational this summer.

A hundred loading stations in France

"Originally our terminals were only compatible with Teslas, but we chose to open them to all electric vehicles to accelerate the energy transition", specifies a spokesperson for the American brand, which has sold nearly 25 000 copies of the Model 3 in 2021 in France where it has a hundred charging stations, equipped on average with ten terminals.

For its part, Casino has installed 13 stations over the past year comprising chargers of several powers.

"We wanted to develop superchargers, which are faster and more powerful, and Tesla was looking for a partner to strengthen itself on the main holiday routes that connect northern Europe, southern France and Spain and the 'Italy,' explains Tina Schuler, General Manager of Géant Casino.

300 kilometers of autonomy in 30 minutes

After Annecy, four stores should follow in 2022, rather in the south-eastern quarter of France, then 27 in 2023. Validation is in progress, as well as the necessary authorizations for the installation of these terminals of 250 kW each, connected to high voltage, which make it possible to “charge in 30 minutes a range of 300 kilometers for a cost of between 15 and 20 euros”, specifies the spokesperson for Tesla.

The cost of refueling on these superchargers is higher than at less powerful stations (10 to 12 euros), due to the speed of service and to cushion the development of the network.

With this partnership, Casino wants to accentuate its "commitment to the climate" - 500,000 square meters of photovoltaic panels are installed on the car parks and roofs of stores - and its desire to "position itself as a mobility partner for the French".

"This agreement with Tesla, which is the benchmark for electric cars worldwide, is very rewarding," says Tina Schuler.

“The sites chosen will be easily accessible from motorway exits and will also allow our customers to do their shopping while loading.
