The name of Valeo has just been added to those of Renault's key partners in its ambitious electrification strategy.
The two French groups have just announced that they will design, develop and produce in France in the Renault factory in Cléon (Seine-Maritime) a new generation electric motor, the advantages of which are numerous.
First, like the other motors in Renault's electric range, this new model (200 kW), more powerful than that of the current electric Megane (160 kW) and without permanent magnets, will not contain rare earths, which avoid environmental and geostrategic risks.
In addition, its volume will be reduced by 45% and its cost by 30%.
This “all-in-one” compact electric motor project had already been described this summer by Luca de Meo, the general manager of Renault.
