It is in all discretion that the French Association of Private Companies (Afep) will celebrate, in 2022, its 40th anniversary.
In 1982, when France in Mitterrand was nationalizing at all costs, Ambroise Roux, CEO of the General Electricity Company, considered at the time as the "godfather" of the big bosses, gathered around him some large private companies of which he wanted to make his voice heard.
They are now 112, and not the least: L'Oréal, LVMH, Valeo, Sodexo, Carrefour, Engie, AXA, Kering, TotalEnergies, BNP Paribas, Société Générale, Air France KLM, Sanofi, Fnac Darty... All have joined this very special club chaired since 2017 by Laurent Burelle, president of Plastic Omnium.
