Russian energy company Gazprom has signed an agreement to design a gas pipeline from Russia to China via Mongolia with a capacity of 50 billion cubic meters of gas annually.
The design capacity of the new gas route is equivalent to the volume of natural gas that Russia pumps to Germany, which is about 50 billion cubic meters of gas annually.
Gazprom said that one of its subsidiaries today signed an agreement with Gazprovod Soyuz Vostok to carry out design and survey work as part of the construction of the Soyuz Vostok gas pipeline.
At the end of last January, Gazprom announced the signing of a protocol with Mongolia on the implementation of a feasibility study for the project, and it is planned to complete the design of the pipeline in 2022 and 2023.
The pipeline is expected to have a length of 962 km, and construction of the project will start in 2024, with the pipeline starting to operate in 2027.
