The Ministry of Water Resources in the Republic of Iraq and the Arab Center for Studies of Dry Areas and Arid Lands (ACSAD) signed a technical and scientific cooperation agreement that included cooperation in the field of integrated management of water resources, management of irrigation water, raising the efficiency of its use, applying rainwater harvesting technologies and using modern methods in determining the water needs of agricultural crops and the impact of climate change on them.
The agreement signed today in Baghdad by the Iraqi Minister of Water Resources, Engineer Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, and by ACSAD Director General, Dr. Nasr Al-Din Al-Obeid, also provided for cooperation in the field of estimating the effects of climate change in the water sector to determine methods of adaptation and preparing mathematical models for groundwater basins. Improving its management, developing the technical capabilities of workers in the field of agricultural irrigation, and studying the use of saline water in agricultural irrigation.
The signing of the agreement was attended by the Minister of Water Resources, Dr. Tammam Raad.
