Air travelers have to be prepared for cancellations and delays as a result of warning strikes at several German airports this Tuesday.
The Ver.di union is expanding the strikes by aviation security personnel.
The two largest German airports, Frankfurt and Munich, are affected – but also Hamburg, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden.
The warning strikes are part of the wage conflict between Ver.di and the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies.
The union is negotiating with the employers' association about wage increases for 25,000 security forces nationwide, three rounds of negotiations have so far remained unsuccessful.
Both sides want to meet again on March 16th and 17th in Berlin.
According to industry information, tens of thousands of travelers could not fly as early as Monday because passenger, personnel and freight controls were on strike.
Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Hanover, Hamburg, Leipzig/Halle and Bremen were affected.
As a result, there were also failures at other airports.
The Frankfurt airport operator Fraport advises all passengers who wanted to board at Germany's largest airport not to come to the airport.
Only transit travelers should be processed.
In Hamburg, the warning strikes are still in the middle of spring break.
The airport company of the Hanseatic city, like other airport operators, recommended that travelers find out about the status of their flight before arriving at the airport.
According to a spokeswoman, Stuttgart Airport is also preparing for significant impairments.
There could be changes to the plan, and flights could also be postponed.
According to the management, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport will try to at least maintain emergency operations.
However, delays are to be expected.
