The Russian Ministry of Transport estimated the losses of foreign airlines from 19 countries in the world at 37.5 million dollars per day as a result of having to change the route of airlines after Russia imposed a ban on the use of its airspace.
The ministry explained in a statement today, reported by TASS, that foreign airlines find themselves obliged to change the course of their planes and turn around the territory of Russia when making flights from Western Europe to Southeast Asia, and this increases the flight time by about two hours.
The statement pointed out that the distance from London to Tokyo, for example, is 9,500 km when flying through Russian territory, while it reaches 11,200 km when flying on alternative routes, which increases the consumption of aircraft fuel and leads to an increase in the value of passenger tickets and the cost of transporting freight.
And the aviation authorities in the United States, the European Union, Canada and others banned Russian airlines from using their airspace after the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, which necessitated Russia to implement retaliatory measures.
