The three and a half weeks of war in Ukraine and the resulting spike in energy costs are already weighing on public transport operators.
Transdev, which operates metros, trams, buses or trains in 18 countries (France, Germany, etc.), has quantified this additional cost: 15 million euros in January and February, which is added to 41 million in 2021, year in which energy prices were already rising.

“I was confident for the 2022 financial year,
says Thierry Mallet, CEO of Transdev.
But I now have a great concern related to the evolution of the price of fuel.
Especially since the indices concerning the increase in the cost of energy are based on the tariffs applied to individuals, not to manufacturers.
"We are told of a 15% increase, while the prices at which we buy electricity and gas have increased at least threefold,"
said Marcos Garcia, the group's financial director.
