In the coming days, things are likely to shake at German airports: security personnel are on strike for better wages. Frankfurt, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Hanover, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn are affected.

In the collective bargaining dispute in the airport security industry, the Verdi union is calling for an almost nationwide warning strike.

On Tuesday, the inspectors at the airports in Frankfurt, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Hanover, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn are to stop working all day, as the union announced.

Security staff strikes will result in many cancellations and delays.

In the past week, the collective bargaining talks, which were also accompanied by warning strikes, remained without result.

A new hearing has been agreed for Thursday.

Equal wages for all regions

Among other things, Ver.di is calling for the hourly wages for aviation security services to be increased by at least one euro per hour.

In addition, regional wages are to be adjusted “to the highest wage level”.

To this end, the union is negotiating with the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS).

The employees in question are employed, for example, in the control of passengers, but also in freight and in the guarding of aircraft.

So far, according to Ver.di, employers have only offered wage increases for the upper pay brackets.

In the salary groups with less than 13 euros per hour, however, the previous offer of 38 cents more per hour remained, Ver.di announced.

This offer is insufficient because it does not take into account the price development and provides for zero months.
