The US dollar fell against the Russian ruble today, to below the level of 88 rubles, for the first time in four weeks.
According to Russia Today, stock exchange data in Moscow showed a decline in the dollar exchange rate by 2.55 rubles to 87.70 rubles, while the euro exchange rate fell to 96.43 rubles.
In terms of stock trading, the Moscow Stock Exchange index rose at the beginning of trading, as the Mix index of ruble-denominated shares rose by 0.48 percent, and the "RTS" index of dollar-denominated shares rose by 4.19 percent.
The Russian currency is rising against the dollar and the euro after Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian government to transfer payments for natural gas exports from Russia to Europe to the ruble currency instead of the euro within a week.
