She immortalized Emmanuel Macron's campaign, and produced the official portrait of the 25th President of the Republic. Who is the one that some compare to Pete Souza, famous photographer of Barack Obama?

Remember.

It is to her that we owe the black and white shots of the theatrical arrival on Sunday May 7, 2017 of Emmanuel Macron on the esplanade of the Louvre, then elected 25th President of the Republic.

During the campaign of the former Minister of the Economy, Soazig de la Moissonnière immortalized behind the scenes with a new eye, working most of the time in the shadows.

She also signed the official portrait of the president, unveiled on Thursday, June 29, 2017 on Emmanuel Macron's official Twitter account.

On the photo, he appears in his office surrounded by French and European flags.

He leans on his desk which has an open book and a clock.

Behind him, the window is open allowing a glimpse of the Elysée garden.

The photo of Soazig de la Moissonnière contrasts with the official portraits of Emmanuel Macron's predecessors.

François Hollande and Jacques Chirac had actually opted for the Elysée garden.

From the streets to the political sphere

Before becoming a freelance photographer, the young woman, currently 36 years old, trained for five years at the Cours Florent, and became a director.

It was in 2006 that she joined EFET, the School of Photography and Photography Training.

Her subjects are then in the street: "She is interested in expressions on which we do not linger, these looks, these smiles, these cries which are part of the decor of our society", can we read on his professional website.

Currently, the photographer still fills her Instagram account with black and white portraits taken in transport.

After capturing the faces in the streets, Soazig de la Moissonnière heads towards the political sphere, which she enters by photographing activists and spokespersons.

Her approach led her to follow François Bayrou as closely as possible, whose 2012 presidential campaign she immortalized, and also produced his official poster.

At the same time, it multiplies the work supports.

Throughout her career, she notably officiated for the town hall of the 14th arrondissement of Paris, that of Pau or even SOS Racisme.

She also works as a freelancer for Visual Presse Agency.

Capture behind the scenes

From May 2016, she took portraits of walkers for En Marche!, then those of the movement's candidate, from August 30, 2016. She won her place as Emmanuel Macron's official photographer in March 2017 and signed the photo of his presidential posters.

His work reflects the new political current wanted by the 25th President of the French Republic.

Finished the staging of the presidential.

The photos immortalizing the candidate's public movements resemble behind-the-scenes captures.

He appears there from the side, from behind.

He hardly ever looks at the lens.

We see him in the mountains on a chairlift with his wife Brigitte Macron, or even playing football with young people during a trip to Sarcelles before the second round of the presidential election.

Soazig de la Moissonnière thus allows the spectator to interfere in his own place, and desacralizes the candidate for the presidential election.

Soazig de la Moissonnière, or the French Pete Souza?

This immersive work earned him a prestigious comparison with Pete Souza, Barack Obama's official photographer.

On the professional's Twitter account, one of her more than 14,000 subscribers even asks her if she is about to create an Instagram account compiling her shots, like the American photographer.

Noticed and congratulated during the presidential campaign, after the election of Emmanuel Macron many wondered if Soazig de la Moissonnière would go so far as to replace the official photographers of the Elysée.

For the time being, it remains in any case the eye – privileged – of the President of the Republic, at the Elysée as during his travels.
