A solution or a gimmick?

Lieberman announced that he had approved the operation of docks that were not used in the private ports, in order to improve the condition of the traffic jam at the seaports and reduce the dependence on the willingness of the workers' committees to intensify the work.

Is this an effective step?

Depends on who you ask

The Minister of Finance, Avigdor Lieberman, announced today that he has operated the unused docks at the two new private ports, in Haifa and the south, in order to overcome the unloading of the 80 ships waiting at sea for unloading.

The Histadrut, for its part, clarifies that this is a breach of agreement and as it stands now, the confrontation is expected to continue.

The Minister of Transport and the Minister of Finance have decided to act to release the traffic jams at the ports, which are contributing to the increase in the cost of living, which is exacerbating the rise in world commodity and transportation prices.

At first it seemed that Michaeli was dragging his feet, due to the strength of the workers' committees in the ports of Haifa and Ashdod, but last week she apparently decided to change direction and now her moves are coordinated with Lieberman.

Since the government ports are unable to take control of the unloading, it was decided to open the empty docks, which were only to be opened in 12 years, and were built in preparation for the expected increase in consumption and annual cargo, for only two years.

The use of the docks will require the purchase of equipment and recruitment, which can take several months, but the foreign companies operating the new ports, SIPG and HCT, can shorten the supply period to only a few weeks, if they receive assistance from the state.

Sources at the ports explained that if the docks work for three full shifts, the opening of the new docks could significantly shorten the waiting time of ships outside the ports and erode the traffic jams.

This issue may need explanation.

Currently, in government ports, only the morning shift is full, in the noon shift the workforce is reduced by 30% and in the evening shift only 50% of the workers are present,

Histadrut: Publicity move

The Histadrut claims that the programming for the new docks to enter work in the near future is nil, so the move is only publicity, and in any case it is a violation of a signed agreement. "We hope

that

things will come to an understanding and settlement through negotiations," it said in a response.

"The Histadrut reserves the right to act by any means at its disposal."
