334 meters long and able to carry nearly 12,000 containers, this giant of the seas operated by the Taiwanese company Evergreen has attracted many curious people who have come to observe the operations aimed at putting it back afloat.

It's finally done.

It started to move again shortly before 7 a.m. local time (11 a.m. GMT), pulled by five tugs and two barges, thanks to the high tide, the Baltimore Sun daily reported.

The coastguards, which had been at work for more than three weeks trying to remove the sand from it and had resolved to relieve it of as many containers as possible to lighten it, could not be reached immediately by the AFP.

Stretching from the state of Virginia in the south to Maryland in the north, the Chesapeake Bay is a gigantic estuary with heavy maritime traffic.

The Ever Given, another Evergreen container ship, was stuck across the Suez Canal in March 2021, blocking traffic for almost a week.
