The following story could have been categorized too easily as another story about the state's problematic attitude towards the self-employed, most of them small business owners struggling to survive financially.

But it seems to express much more than that, especially the conduct of the current government - which solemnly declares above all what it will compensate and expound (so it also celebrated at the time the historic decision for independent languages for days of isolation in Corona), and the abuse To the draconian protocol set by the state - and find themselves without compensation.

So yes, the self-employed again feel laughed at inside.

Ask Ricky, a single mother of two, who tried to get from the state the isolation and sick pay promised to her and her friends, small and medium-sized business owners - and even though she stayed at home for almost a whole month, she was informed by Social Security that she did not deserve a penny.

Ricky's story

"In January my eight-and-a-half-year-old son fell ill and my ten-year-old daughter and I did a test and came out negative, but she had to be in isolation, so I didn't work," Ricky boils over.

"On the seventh day of isolation, her test came out positive, and I stayed at home with her too. On February 15, I also fell ill, was on my face and had to sit at home again for a week.

" That the self-employed will receive isolation and sick pay due to the outbreak of the omicron.

I found out that I do not deserve isolation fees for children, because I did not declare that I am in isolation and without a declaration there is no payment and for my illness I will not receive anything, because the deadline to receive reimbursement for sick days was February 14, the day before I was infected.

"When I applied to Social Security, I was told that they were just the executive arm of the Ministry of Finance, and retroactive isolation could not be declared, even though the children were reported as verified to the Ministry of Health and had all the documentation, and someone had to stay with them. If you contain, then you will also include the self-employed, not to mention single mothers whose mothers have no one to share the burden with.

"

People are collapsing and you say the omicron was a mild disease?

No more sick pay after February 14, because for them the wave is over.

And what about the sixth wave that erupted immediately afterwards?

He is not counted? "

Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

In the Knesset, a law was enacted, and people in the field are made fun of

Ricky is not alone.

Many freelancers have encountered the exact same problems.

Many of them did not know that they had to declare the isolation of the children in order to receive the isolation fee and they were furious at the arbitrary date set by the Ministry of Finance for ending the wave, even though there was another wave.

T., an independent single woman who is fighting for a livelihood, says she probably needs to know when to abduct Corona: "I found out I was ill at the wrong time, on February 17. When I entered the system I was notified that I was not registered at all and when I called Social Security, they referred me to the Ministry of Health. Sick and everything is fine, and then it became clear to me that from a state point of view there was no longer an omicron, even though the sixth wave hit everyone around me. If I had children, or I would return from abroad, I would get the isolation fee.

This is unlikely. "

The government decision for independent languages that went into isolation because of the corona and starting in July 2021, the date when the unique grant programs for business owners ended, was made after a petition to the High Court and there are no end of discussions with the Treasury.

From the beginning of April 2022, self-employed people can demand retroactive payment from the National Insurance Institute from July, and are entitled to four isolation days of NIS 570 each, subject to the "Self-isolation Days Law", which ends in May, provided they inform the Ministry of Health.

Exceptionally, since the state does not pay self-employed people for sick days, indemnity is also set for sick days for self-employed people who became infected in Corona between December 26 and February 14.

Compared to employees, who "sacrifice" only one sick day, which is not usually deducted from the salary, and receive three more at the expense of the state, the self-employed continue to be discriminated against. Posted in public (at least not enough) and about which many of them were not known, they are also not entitled to the isolation fee.Attempts to prove that their young child is infected, do not convince the authorities.

MK Efrat Reitan, Chairman of the Labor and Welfare Committee: "There is no reasonable or satisfactory answer here" (Photo: Knesset Spokeswoman Noam Moskowitz)

The issue of compensation due to the outbreak of the Omicron strain, which was delayed for many months, came to the table of the

chairman of the Labor and Welfare Committee, MK Efrat Reitan

.

"The self-employed struggled to get indemnity from the state," she says, "and after a dialogue with the Treasury, they managed to get three days of isolation at a cost of 430 shekels. The issue came to me in January, when the whole country was in isolation.

" Are in solitary confinement, and after bending hands with the Treasury, I was able to reach an agreement on four days of solitary confinement with an indemnity of NIS 570 per day.

Then an argument began over when the wave started.

According to the data, January 1 was set as the date of the outbreak, although they proved that it broke out on December 16. In the end, we closed on December 21.

"Then things started to go on until the sick pay was paid to the self-employed.

Again, subject to Ministry of Health data proving that the number of isolations has decreased,

Why February 14th?

"That's what was decided."

What is the difference between a self-employed person who fell ill until February 14, and a self-employed person who fell ill in March?

He should not have closed his business and stayed at home according to the government decision?

"There is no reasonable, or plausible, answer here. There is no basis for this decision, because we saw another outbreak in early March. The state is looking at the macro and looking to give an answer."

What answer?

This is blatant discrimination.

The self-employed are angry with you

.

"You are looking for logic and there is no. When you look at the policy of the Ministry of Health and Finance, it has changed in motion. There are some big question marks and if you come to us, we will enter the committee and discuss it."

Also

the center of the coalition in the Finance Committee, MK Vladimir Blyak

, Admits that he too received many complaints on the subject from the self-employed.

"It was right to extend the payment of sick pay to the self-employed until the end of March, because the isolation was extended until May 31. I spoke with MK Wrighten, and she was skeptical about approving the extension, but we will raise this issue at the beginning of the session."

Stretch to April 1st

Roi Cohen, president of Lahav, the Chamber of Independent Organizations in Israel

, already this morning asked to convene the committee and discuss the provision of sick pay to self-employed people who fell ill after February 14. "More and more self-employed people are making claims that I do not know how to answer.

February 14 is set as the deadline for paying sick pay to self-employed people, assuming the wave ended then, but in late February and early March another wave broke out, Friday, and business owners do not understand how they differ from those in the fifth wave and rightly so.

"Fulfilled if the situation with the employees was similar, but only the first day is at the expense of the employee's sick pay, which he does not actually pay, and the other three at the expense of the state. In addition, there is outrage over the fact that one has to register with the Ministry of Health as an isolator and if the self-employed person is not registered, even if there is proven documentation of the child's illness, he will not receive an isolation fee.

"We need to remember that this legislation was when they thought when the wave faded and then, according to the experts, it turned us inside and people sat at home. We need to go back to the negotiating table and compensate the self-employed who fell in Corona at least until April 1."

The Ministry of Finance responded

: "Reimbursement of isolation fees for the self-employed is given as an exceptional temporary order, in light of the unusual wave of illness of the Omicron that ended on February 14, 2222.
