Elon Musk has agreed with Twitter to take over the short message service.
The Tesla founder made an offer worth $46.5 billion last week.
Musk explained the interest by wanting to end alleged restrictions on free speech on Twitter.
The group had initially blocked it, but on Monday US media reported that Twitter had apparently changed its mind due to pressure from shareholders.
Musk, who already owns 9 percent of Twitter, offers $54.20 per share.
