There is work, according to data published today by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on supply and demand in the labor market.
According to the CBS, in the fourth quarter of 2021 the number of vacancies rose to an average of 143.4 thousand jobs per month.
This is compared to an average of 141.8 thousand vacancies per month in the third quarter of 2021.
The data also show that the ratio between supply and demand, ie, the ratio between job seekers and vacancies decreased to 2.8 compared to 3.0 in the previous quarter.
And where does the number of vacancies increase the number of people applying to work?
There are no big surprises, these are software developers, sales representatives on the phone and among cleaning workers and assistants.
On the other hand, the number of job seekers was five times higher than the number of vacancies among those with ancillary occupations in the fields of finance and mathematics and among secretarial workers.

Between software development and telemarketing and cleaning
When you look at the data from the entire last year and not just the last quarter, you find again that the labor market has recovered.
For example, in 2021, the number of job vacancies increased to an average of 127.6 thousand jobs per month, compared with an average of 61.3 thousand job vacancies per month in 2020. An increase of almost double.
The data also show that jobseekers in 2021 were divided as follows: the rate of employed people looking for work was 20.2%, while the rate of unemployed amounted to 44.4% and "non-weekly labor force participants" looking for work in the past year - 35.3%.
What emerges from the data are two other trends: The
first is the "failure" in the labor market - a mismatch between the skills of a large proportion of job seekers and the requirements of the jobs found (for example in software development).
The second is the reluctance of many Israelis from jobs that are perceived as forced labor, such as telemarketing or cleaning.
