Nespresso pods belong to the closed circle of B corp certified companies.
The Nestlé subsidiary becomes one of the largest companies in the world to obtain this prestigious American certification, which rewards companies with a positive social and environmental impact.
Among the 4,500 who have already been awarded the label are several Danone subsidiaries, Nature & Découverte, Michel & Augustin and Sézane.

To obtain the precious sesame, which is increasingly coveted, Nespresso started doing it in 2019. But the process is long, especially for an international company whose practices differ from one country to another.
“
B Corp asked us 300 questions per market, and we are present in around forty markets
,” explains Nespresso.
Even for B Corp it was not easy to manage the certification of a company like ours
”.
“Work in progress”
The Nestlé subsidiary is above all rewarded for the work carried out with the independent coffee producers with whom it works.
Nespresso developed a program more than twenty years ago which aims to improve the standard of living of these coffee producers and to protect cultivated soils.
Half of the coffee sold by Nespresso now comes from farms certified by the NGO Rainforest Alliance.
The B Corp certification also rewards the efforts made to recycle its aluminum capsules.
“This certification reflects Nespresso's 30-year commitment to sustainability, transparency and corporate responsibility,”
said Guillaume Le Cunff, CEO of Nespresso
.

However, it is only a work in progress.
The certification is reviewed every three years, with an increasing level of requirement.
“
To earn B Corp points, a good practice must be deployed in at least 80% of the markets,
” explains Nespresso.
We know that to progress, we must work to deploy good local practices, for example in the field of capsule recycling, in all our markets
”.
