Despite the corona pandemic, things have been going well for Apple so far - but now the group is preparing for a major setback in the current quarter.

Mainly because of the lockdown in Shanghai, Apple expects sales to be four to eight billion lower.

"We are not immune to such challenges," said CEO Tim Cook.

Most product categories would be affected.

The electronics industry as a whole is struggling with chip bottlenecks and other problems in the supply chain.

At Apple, the iPad tablet was already affected in the past quarter.

The war in Ukraine could also weaken business in the future.

The stop of business in Russia in response to the Russian war of aggression will slow down sales growth, said CFO Luca Maestri.

Still good figures in the first quarter

Apple was able to hold its own against the global problems in the electronics industry in the last quarter and increased sales by nine percent year-on-year to $97.3 billion.

The bottom line was a profit of $25 billion - almost six percent more than a year earlier, Apple's third-highest quarterly profit.

The group had only achieved the record of 34.6 billion dollars in the previous quarter.

The growth in the service area was particularly strong, in which the business with storage services, the app platform, but also music and video streaming is bundled.

Apple was also able to grow Mac computers, although the global PC industry is shrinking.

Things looked particularly good for Apple's most important product, the iPhone: According to calculations by the market research company Canalys, Apple was the only major smartphone manufacturer to increase sales in the past quarter - while the market leader Samsung went down.

Many of the leading smartphone providers no longer give sales figures themselves.
