Home-based employment is on the rise in France.
In 2021, the sector's payroll increased by 2.8% according to the latest Urssaf figures published on Friday.
The number of hours worked by nannies, housekeepers, carers, gardeners, etc., however, remained stable (+0.1% over one year).
These results cover different realities during the year.
In the fourth quarter, home employment payrolls fell 1.7% after rising 3.2% in the previous quarter.
This development results from the drop in declared hourly volume (-2.8%) at the end of the year, while the average wage rate increased (+1.1%).

Compared to the fourth quarter of 2019, the last benchmark before the health crisis, the wage bill for home employment increased by 3.4%, driven by the 5% increase in the hourly wage rate when the number of hours declared decreased by 1.5%.
The situation also differs according to the type of employment.
Excluding childcare, payroll is up 4.5% compared to its pre-crisis level.
On the other hand, it was virtually stable for childminders (+0.3%), and down 4.8% for home childcare.
In this context, the Federation of services to individuals (Fesp) deplored the postponement of the immediate advance of the tax credit for households through a service provider.
Set up last January for direct private employers - 150,000 registered users according to Urssaf -, the immediate tax credit allows families not to advance the part of their employee's remuneration paid for by the State.
Until then, reimbursement took place after several months.
The measure which was to be generalized in April to all households, including therefore those going through a service provider, was postponed to mid-June due to technical problems.
