4-day week, working time called into question!

2022-05-04T10:31:22.520Z

A proposal that the left ardently defends, but which does not convince the right, the "4-day week" project still arouses as much debate and could be a deciding factor for voters in the next presidential elections. Only the far-right party did not...

Everyone puts forward their arguments

Some advocate “meritocracy”, like the right, which clings to its principles and for whom the only way to earn more is to work even more.

Others, in this case the left, believe that hoarding working hours is counterproductive and that better results are obtained if workers have more time for themselves.

Unsurprisingly, the left is fighting for the adoption of the bill reducing working hours.

However, stakeholders are not really on the same page as to how this reduction would take place.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon (Communist Party), for example, suggests moving to 32 hours of work per week.

His colleague Phillipe Poutou (NPA), for his part, is in favor of the 4-day week with 28 hours of work per week in all.

Anne Hidalgo (Socialist Party), for her part, thinks that the role of the next President should be limited to submitting suggestions and that the final decision should rest with the employers.

No reduction in hours for the right

President Macron is the first to brush aside the idea of reducing working hours.

But his opinion on “working more to earn more” is shared by the entire right.

The President is nevertheless more nuanced in his position in the case of seniors about to retire.

The strong man of the Elysee offers a gradual reduction in working time, as the main interested party ages.

The current Minister of Labour, Elizabeth Borne, is also opposed to the reduction of working time, at least to the fact that it is decided by politicians.

For her, the company should have full powers to decide.

The problem does not arise in wage portage

The debate concerning the 4-day week and the reduction of working time does not concern the self-employed who use

wage portage

with recognized companies such as https://www.abcportage.fr.

The employee carried remains a self-employed worker.

As a result, these working hours remain difficult to quantify and are not regular.

However, it is stipulated in the collection agreement and the Labor Code that the worker must not exceed 173 hours of work per month.

The future will tell if this maximum can be revised downwards in the event that the reduction in working hours is recorded.
