Private salaried employment slowed in the first quarter in France, increasing by 0.3%, or 66,100 net job creations, according to the provisional estimate published Friday by INSEE.
In the fourth quarter of 2021, private payroll employment had increased by 0.6%, closing a positive year (+3.5% over the whole of 2021, or +677,700 jobs) which had more than erased the decline in 2020 following the health crisis.

In Q1 2022, temporary employment fell back slightly (−1.4% or −11,500 jobs) after a sharp increase in the previous quarter (+5.4% or +42,300 jobs).
However, in the first quarter of 2022, it remained above its pre-crisis level: +4.8% (i.e. +37,500 jobs) compared to the end of 2019. Excluding temporary work, private salaried employment increased in all sectors, particularly in industrial employment (excluding temporary workers), in construction (excluding temporary workers) and the non-market tertiary sector (still excluding temporary workers).
INSEE specifies that people who have worked at least one paid hour during a given period are counted as employed, but also those in employment who have not worked for certain reasons (in particular in the case of partial unemployment and sick leave).
