Despite the economic slowdown, the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) expects tax revenue to rise sharply.
In 2022, the federal, state and local governments would post a little more than 30 billion euros in additional income, and in 2023 almost 40 billion euros, according to the department of Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP).
The figures come from the BMF's proposal for the tax estimate due next week.
The increase in income is due to the fact that corporate and income taxes in particular, but also taxes on consumption, are developing better than expected.
In addition, inflation fills the treasury.
If prices rise but people still buy a lot, the state collects more sales tax, for example.
"Based on the relevant nominal parameters, there is a tendency for a certain upward adjustment of revenue expectations, especially for the next few years," says a note from the BMF.
Despite the increase in income, Lindner should not see any scope for additional expenditure.
The federal government has practically already planned its share of almost half of the additional income.
The government recently presented two relief packages for citizens.
These have a total volume of around 30 billion euros.
