The Minister of Electricity, Eng. Ghassan Al-Zamil, confirmed that the first conference for investment in the field of renewable energies and electricity, which will be held next week, is an opportunity to exchange experiences, attract investors and encourage them to set up projects in this field and to include them in the generation and distribution of electricity.

Minister Al-Zamel said in a statement to SANA that the two-day conference, which will be held at the Yasmeen City Hotel in Damascus, on the 15th and 16th of this month, will discuss the future of electric energy, investment opportunities in the electricity sector, financing mechanisms, necessary guarantees, and experiences of countries in developing the sector and benefiting from private investment, pointing out that It is attended by specialists from the Ministries of Electricity, Finance, Economy and Foreign Trade, representatives of the Planning and International Cooperation Authority, ESCWA, the Arab Authority for Renewable Energy and Al-Maj Company.

Al-Zamil stressed that the ministry has created a new legislative environment for investment in this field, as a fund was recently created to support renewable energies, raise energy efficiency, and develop some old legislation, such as Law 32 of 2010 to suit the current situation of electricity, which contributes to the development of the sector.

Al-Zamil considered that the conference provides an opportunity for investors to present their ideas and discuss them with stakeholders in the state ministries, and to identify the obstacles and difficulties that hinder the development and investment in the electrical sector, pointing out that invitations were sent to investors from friendly and brotherly countries to participate in the conference and benefit from their expertise in this field.

The minister explained that Syria has elements that encourage the application of alternative energies, as the sunny days reach 300 days a year, which can be used to generate photovoltaic energy, in addition to the presence of good wind latency in the governorates of Daraa, As-Suwayda, Quneitra, Homs and Deir ez-Zor, pointing out that a map of wind latency has been prepared that will be presented. during the conference.

The minister indicated that the two analytical laboratories for testing devices for renewable energies will be in service soon, as the Damascus laboratory will enter service at the beginning of next month, while the Tartous laboratory needs about two months.
