Name

: Dalit Stauber, 62, Director General of the Ministry of Education.

Who I am

: An educator, a family, a person who loves people, sees education as the future of the country.

Roots 1

: I see myself standing on the shoulders of strong women, great grandma, grandma and my mom.

Great-grandmother, Hadassah, nicknamed 'Buba Hoods', was one of the first families to leave the walls of Jerusalem for Mishkenot Sha'ananim.

She was the grinder of the windmill, considered honest and shrewd, and the Jews and Arabs would entrust her with their sacks of grain.

She was married to Aaron Hershler, a yeshiva student who was attacked by rioters in 1873, shot dead and considered Israel's first casualty.

Hoods was a sought-after matchmaker.

She was among Herzl's receptionists when he visited Israel and married his grandfather, who after a few years wanted to be a pioneer and kidnapped their son to Petah Tikva.

She rode a donkey there for three days and abducted him back to be a wise student, and the Yeshiva of the Western Wall is named after him.

Grandma was born in Jerusalem.

She got married and because of the livelihood difficulties she moved to Tel Aviv and had 14 children. When Grandpa was looking for a religious neighborhood to live in, he came to the Hatikva neighborhood, where there was a synagogue in every second house, and they settled there - the only Ashkenazis in the neighborhood. Because of childhood illnesses before the mother was born. One

of the daughters, Yocheved, had cerebral palsy. For a year and back with her as she goes in. It is impossible to imagine her devotion, courage and giving.

When Yocheved was 18 and her mother was six, they went for a walk in the Carmel market and children mocked her and she burst into tears.

Mom promised her then, you can, do not worry, you will not be left alone.

Mother was her guardian, she took her with us everywhere, to the theater, to the cinema, she would read the translation for her, because she could not read.

She was for us the grandmother we did not have: rib, stuttering hard, but we understood every word.

Roots 2

: In 1932, Dad came from Poland to the Mahlul neighborhood, near the Gordon body in Tel Aviv, when he was two years old.

Grandpa, who was a not-so-successful businessman, had a sausage factory.

He died when his father turned 14 and his younger sister was nine months old.

Because he had to help support the household, he worked in the mornings, studied in the evenings and became the mythological savior of Tel Aviv, the great Icho.

He met his mother, who was a teacher and an IDF widow who lost her husband in Sinai, at the beach. He was one of the most coveted bachelors in Tel Aviv and she is beautiful.

After undergoing a bailout in Canada, they got married and moved into a small one-room apartment with a key fee.

A closet crossed the room and the meals we would eat on a stool.

My girls

: Tel Aviv.

I never knew we were poor, because the spiritual wealth that was in the house was immense.

We got free admission to the zoo, after Mom discovered a monkey cub that had run away and played with my brother's toys on the porch, and the animals were our friends.

I studied in a bilingual major I had amazing teachers who recognized my talents and were aware of the financial hardship at home.

In third grade, Ilana, the sports teacher, called me to join a dance class.

When I said parents have no money, she said, they should pay as much as they can.

It turned out that the dental care I received at school fell short of English lessons and I could not read.

In each lesson I would ask to go to the bathroom and hide there.

Mom said I would be the best student in English and together with her sister, Shula, they taught me everything from scratch.

During the big holiday I read 120 books in English, talked to tourists at sea and became an English teacher.

I always worked, gave private lessons, took care of the kids after school and the holidays, and I was an outstanding student.

Bear

: My husband, a jeweler.

On the last day of high school he called and said, I'm a bear and I want to meet you.

I replied that I did not meet people I did not know and he explained that he was the cousin of teacher Ilana and was waiting for me to be 18 to call me.

We met for the first time with teacher Ilana and got married half a year later.

We have three children and we live in Tel Aviv.

Teaching

: I always wanted to be a teacher, already at the age of 3 I taught my dolls and already in third grade I was a substitute teacher for the class below me.

I am a big believer in teaching as a life-changing profession, teaching the child to overcome difficulties, human love and compassion.

I was not in the military because I got married at 18 and a half and because I was poor, I thought being a teacher would open up opportunities for me in life.

I studied English literature and linguistics at Bar Ilan, then a master's degree in educational counseling.

I started as an English teacher, I was a stratum coordinator, national, district instructor, Tel Aviv district director, and acting director of education, until Eldad Koblenz was elected. Until I was appointed to the current position, I sat on the corporation board.

Ministry of Education 1

: When Gideon Saar, who was the Minister of Education, approached me to replace Shimon Shoshani in running the ministry, it was a dream come true.

I heard about my appointment as chair of the Free Education Committee for 3-year-olds on the radio.

My mission was so clear: the poor girl, whose education was her social mobility, gets the opportunity to provide free education to toddlers. After Shai Firon's appointment and two years in the job, I left. Job, and I worked in organizational consulting in Israel and around

the world

: The Minister of Education, Yifat Shasha Bitton, and I had a superficial acquaintance of a telephone conversation.

I witnessed a crisis with the previous CEO and when she showed up at my house and asked me to be reappointed as the firm's CEO, it was 'like a fire burning in my bones', I could not refuse.

When I was called to the flag I gave up the international career I had built, despite the warnings of my children, who expected Mom to help with the kids.

The second time I got the job after I had studied in depth the needs of the other side of the barricade and since I knew it, I was able to start working right away.

Yifat Shasha Bitton

: We get along very well.

I did not plan to return to the office and I am happy for the privilege of working alongside a professional who understands education in depth and sees herself as a partner in shaping his future.

We have helpful work together.

Threat of strike

: The teachers 'union and we are in wage discussions that are supposed to improve teachers' salaries ahead of the new agreement.

All the signs in the field indicate difficulty in recruiting new teachers, perseverance of veterans and signs of attrition.

Beyond that, we are also seeing a decline in college enrollment.

The salary that teachers receive does not reflect the great effort they put in, the hours of work that do not end at the end of the school day and the complex nature of the profession.

The budget increase is not part of the budget of the Ministry of Education and requires the approval of the Treasury, so it is necessary to approve the state budget for next year so that the Treasury knows in what framework it stands.

Budget discussions are scheduled to begin in June and for us and for the parents, it is critical.

There is a complex combination of wage agreements that ended in a year without a defined budget.

And should the government fail to pass the budget and not close the agreement, I sincerely hope that the next school year will open, as the teachers are a very responsible body.

I have seen that the State of Israel knows how to organize its budget for national needs and provide a solution for urgent strategic distress.

I hope the state understands the importance of opening up the education system that contributes to social, mental and national resilience, especially after the corona damage, when children did not study regularly.

Lack of teachers

: We work on all levels.

Managing the shortage of teachers is addressed in the immediate term, we make conversions, manage the demand for sabbaticals, and develop attractive frameworks for outstanding students even before graduation.

At the same time, a long-term strategic move is needed, which will reduce the shortcomings for the coming years.

This is not something that can be done in three months.

This is a problem that has been going on for a long time.

Matriculation Reform

: As a graduate in English literature and linguistics, coming from the humanities, the new path will lead to more educated graduates.

There is a chance that the things learned will remain part of their worldview due to the nature of the tasks.

We do not give up the humanities but on the contrary, we empower them.

The move will be at its best for a few more years.

Regarding the teachers 'organizations' claim that they were not consulted, we worked with very broad groups of teachers, principals, students and everyone on the education map.

Vacation reform

: is not now in the forefront.

Her time will come.

Day care

: The responsibility for them has recently passed to the Ministry of Education and we are in the midst of a complex process that includes licensing, opening professional training for caregivers, absorbing the staff of the working arm who cared for them and thickening the pedagogical staff.

Dormitory Abuse

: We have accurate monitoring of the cameras placed in the dormitory, including a system that monitors and alerts when the cameras are closed.

Since the responsibility for them has been transferred to us, the number of dormitories closed due to suspicion of abuse has increased immeasurably and we feel our presence on the ground.

Managerial responsibility

: The Ministry of Education changes the functional profile from an operational body to a regulator.

NIS 2.4 billion was transferred from the Ministry of Finance to the school principals, so that they could provide the educational solutions out of an understanding of the staff and the community and an understanding of the needs.

When managers have responsibilities - they should also have authority.

The accompaniment given to them will be differential and not uniform as to this day, with the complex institutions receiving close accompaniment.

The goal is to see the promotion of the achievements of the whole system and make it more effective.

Leisure

: You probably assume that I have ... This weekend I am with the grandchildren, and with my elderly mother, reading and enriching my world and amassing strength for next week.

Looking to the future

: The CEO of this office is serving a trust.

I work on the one hand, as if I would be here forever - and on the other, as if in another minute the refuge chair could blow me out, with my whole family mobilized for the mission with me.
