Han Wenxiu, an official with the Central Committee for Chinese Financial and Economic Affairs, announced that China represented more than 18 percent of the global economy in 2021, up from 11.4 percent in 2012.
"China has consolidated and improved its position as the world's second largest economy over the past decade, and the contribution of China's economic growth to the world economy has reached about 30 percent in recent years, becoming the largest growth engine of the world economy," Xiu was quoted by Xinhua as saying.
The Chinese official added that the country's gross domestic product exceeded 114 trillion yuan, equivalent to about 16.94 trillion US dollars in 2021, and the per capita GDP reached 12,500 US dollars, approaching the threshold of high-income economies.
