In times of Covid and recovery, cooperative businesses, owned by associated independent entrepreneurs, show insolent health, much better than all businesses.

They are called Leclerc, Intermarché or Système U in the food sector, Bricorama, Intersport, Joué Club or Atol in the non-food sector and account for 30% of trade in France.

Last year, their turnover increased by 4.5%, to 163 billion euros, against 3.9% for the whole retail trade.

But in 2020, they remained at 2% growth when sales in their sector collapsed.

“We have been doing better than the rest of the trade for twenty years”

, rejoices Jean Pierre Dry, president of the Associated Trade Federation (FCA).
