Granting an initial permit for the first electronic payment application in Syria

The National Authority for Network Services has granted an initial permit to make the “e-Lira” application specialized in the field of electronic payment services.

The Director of Regulation and Licensing at the Commission, Engineer Madeleine Al-Shelly, stated in a statement to SANA reporter that the authority asked the company operating the application to complete the necessary approvals from the Central Bank of Syria in preparation for granting it the final permit, based on the controls and regulations for electronic applications operating on the network.

According to Al-Shali, the application provides electronic payment services to the public, including payment of bills, fees, subscriptions, installments, and electronic services for all medium and large institutions with commercial, industrial, service or educational activity in the public and private sectors.

Al-Shelly indicated that the number of electronic payment companies that applied to obtain an application permit that provides electronic payment services reached 4 companies, namely “i-lira”, “e-cash”, “sadadi” and “sidra”.

The total number of applications that submitted requests for a permit since last year until now, according to Al-Shelly, has reached 128, of which 32 have obtained an initial permit and 15 have obtained a final permit.
