European shares opened today's trading lower, with French shares declining by nearly one percent.
Reuters reported that the European Stoxx 600 index fell 0.6 percent, after recording its first weekly gain in five weeks last Friday.
The travel and leisure sector led the losses among the sub-indices, down by 1.4 percent, and the health care sector was the biggest loser.
Shares of luxury goods companies, including LVMH, which owns the Louis Vuitton brand, fell by 1.1 percent.
