Emigrants from Germany are most often drawn to Switzerland in Europe.
As reported by the Federal Statistical Office, around 309,000 German citizens were resident in the neighboring country at the beginning of 2021.
According to data from the EU statistics agency Eurostat, their number has been increasing for years, most recently by 0.7 percent or around 2100 people.
Austria follows in second place among the emigration destinations, where around 209,000 Germans were resident in 2021.
