An airbag, height-adjustable backrests and side impact protection: Some child seats impress with particularly high safety standards. In this case, more expensive means better.

Child seats are in demand.

Until children are twelve years old or 1.50 meters tall, they are even mandatory.

The choice is large, but not all are equally safe.

That's why Stiftung Warentest has now tested 26 different models.

The following questions were asked beforehand:

  • Do they pass the crash test?

  • Do they contain pollutants?

  • How comfortable are they for the kids?

  • Can parents handle it?

The differences were sometimes large.

While four seats failed due to a lack of safety or the presence of pollutants, one seat achieved the best mark for the first time.

The winner of the test is the

Cybex Anoris T i-Size

.

But quality has its price: the model costs 700 euros, making it the most expensive product in the test series.

The technical innovation, an airbag, earned him the »very good« (1.5).

In the event of an accident, an air cushion inflates in less than 15 milliseconds.

The seat is recommended for children between the ages of 15 months and six years.

A transverse impact shield, which replaces the usual seat belt, is intended to provide additional safety (see picture).

This can be opened and closed and thus easily operated by parents.

Inexpensive models fail

The

Kidfix M i-Size

from the manufacturer Britax Römer was also rated "good" (2.0).

The height-adjustable backrest and side impact protection were particularly praised.

Theoretically, this can be used up to the age of twelve.

The manufacturer Maxi-Cosi can also look forward to positive reviews.

The Mica Pro Eco i-Size

and

Pearl 360 + Family Fix 360 Base

models

received the grade "good" (2.1).

On the other hand, inexpensive options failed: According to Stiftung Warentest, the models

Walser Kids Experts Noemi

(approx. 80 euros),

Kinderkraft Comfort Up

(approx. 70 euros),

Urban Kanga Uptown Model TV107

(149 euros) and

Lionelo Antoon RWF

(approx. 200 euros) either do not have sufficient protection or they have been treated with carcinogenic flame retardants (TCPP or TDCP).

The picture for baby bowls is clearer.

All tested models were rated "good".

The Aton B2 i-Size (with base approx. 240 euros) emerged as the test winner.
