The Prime Minister, Engineer Hussein Arnous, approved the recommendation of the Economic Committee to support the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform to allow the export of onions and garlic for a period of only two months, starting from the date of issuance of this recommendation.
The recommendation included that the quantity of onions should not exceed 3,600 tons and the quantity of 5,600 tons of garlic, provided that the market reality is re-examined according to the price and production developments of these two substances.
The recommendation also included allowing the export of olive oil for a period of only two months from the date of issuance of this recommendation, with a maximum quantity of 5,000 tons, provided that it is exported in containers of no more than 8 liters.
The recommendation of the Economic Committee comes after studying the reality of the availability of some agricultural products in the local market by the relevant ministries and the presence of surpluses in the production of onions, garlic and olive oil that are greater than the market need during the current period and to ensure that farmers receive a fair price that matches their efforts and work throughout the agricultural season and to encourage them to continue The agricultural process with determining the quantities allowed to be exported for these materials in order to achieve a price balance in the market during the period of permitting export while continuing to secure these materials in the local markets on the one hand and improving the quality of the exported material on the other hand.
