The General Organization for Seed Multiplication contracted this year with a number of farmers to produce 80,000 tons of wheat seed, 80 percent of hard wheat and 20 percent of soft wheat, in addition to the production of 3,000 tons of barley seed, according to the General Director of the Corporation, Engineer Wael Al-Taweel.
In a statement to SANA reporter, Al-Taweel pointed out that the institution has taken the necessary measures and preparations to receive its needs of wheat, barley and legumes from farmers, and their value will be delivered immediately.
Al-Taweel indicated that all procedures have been completed to start the process of sifting and preparing the seeds, from maintaining the fixed and mobile sifting and sterilization centers distributed in all branches, and securing sterilizers and bags to fill the seeds to be ready for distribution to farmers in the next season.
According to Al-Taweel, the Corporation, after obtaining the necessary approvals, will determine the percentage of rewards to be granted to farmers contracting with it, and it will be added to the wheat and barley receipt prices that were set for this year.
Al-Taweel pointed out that the Corporation has identified centers in the governorates of Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Damascus, Daraa, As-Suwayda and Deir Ezzor to receive the contracted quantities, and the receiving operations will begin after ensuring that the production matches the specifications approved by the Corporation.
Regarding the potato seed production plan, Al-Taweel revealed that it was contracted to plant 877 net-houses and 1,400 dunums of open crops, in order to produce about 2,500 tons of potato seed in the Super Elite and Elite stages of early and medium-ripening varieties that are distinguished by their superiority over their counterparts of imported potato seeds, explaining that this aims to To secure part of the farmers’ need and positive intervention in the qualitative and material value in implementation of the government’s policy in order to reduce the costs of production inputs to farmers and encourage agriculture to ensure its advancement to achieve food security.
According to Al-Taweel, the rest of the need is secured by importing foreign potato seeds, as the door for subscription will be opened to farmers next month, and within their needs of the varieties they want to plant.
With regard to the agricultural mushroom seed between Al-Taweel, the Corporation provides the needs of farmers, both white and oyster, through laboratories for its production spread in various governorates and providing them with special brochures and direct follow-up, with the aim of spreading this cultivation that contributes to securing part of the nutritional requirements of families.
